From Dreams to Designs: An Unconventional Journey

When I dreamed of being a fashion designer, I never guessed that I’d be standing in my kitchen monitoring an accordion pattern baking in my oven. Yet, here I am, making a bespoke accordion pleated skirt for a cherished client. 

As a little girl, I fell in love with the glamour of fashion; however, that’s not the driving force that has sustained me. I’ve got the accordion pattern cooking in my vintage 1960s pink oven to prove it. 

When I think about my journey as a fashion designer, there are very few moments that register as traditionally “glamorous”. Rather, it's the gritty scenes: sweating through hair and makeup before setting up my first event last summer; transforming my car to accommodate quick outfit changes during photoshoots; and moving furniture around to setup my sewing space each time I get to work.

No, I don’t have an assistant to order around Miranda Priestly style. I don’t have a sprawling studio with walls of fabric and dress forms and a massive mood board full of inspiration - (clearly I have a vision!) -, but I DO have the best supporting friends and family around me. I DO have just the right number of sewing machines, cherished art supplies, and a trusty cork board for seasonal inspiration updates.

While my life as a fashion designer isn't defined by glamour, it's amusing to see how seamlessly I adapt my life to align with my brand. Along the way, I've received so many blessings, but my true motivation lies in creation. Designing is my passion; it's delving into a client's essence, interpreting their spirit, and weaving it into a unique design that makes my soul sing.
